Looking over Lac Champex
| -Ah...another rest day! -An annual event called UltraTrail was in full swing as we rest in Champex. The Ultratrail is held every year where runners compete in trekking the Tour du Mont Blanc trail in 2 days. Just imagine, it takes us 8 days (not counting our rest days) to trek from/end at Chamonix...these guys are running the same trail in just 2 days!! As it turns out Champex was one of the biggest 'hub' for these runners. -Just so happen that the 25th, we will expect the first runner to pass through Champex. So tents were set up in the main square with BBQ, music and of course family and friends of the competitors! -It was quite amazing that the support these runners receive as they pass through the streets of Champex...I found myself clapping, cheering "BRAVO..BRAVO" as they pass. I know how tough the trail is because we had done it so I do give credit for these guys running day & night up and down the hills of TMB.....I just can't imagine how tough it is to run the trail at night time! -I walked around town a bit and spent most of the afternoon sitting on the patio, having great conversations with my fellow hikers and having awesome beer - Panache....yum. |
