Trekking Mont Blanc 2007 travel blog

Welcome to Switzerland!

My hay bed....:)

We depart La Saxe at 8am and took a short bus ride to the TMB trail....

-We were told today will be a much shorter day. We should reach our Refuge for the night at around 2pm. I was excited because today we will be crossing over to Switzerland!

-The hike was much easier today...no rain but overcast - so perfect hiking conditions. We took a rest at Refuge Elena at about 10 am, after this will be a tougher hike uphill towards the pass.

-Once again, we hiked in single file due to the narrow trail...

-At about noon, we reached to border of Italy and Switzerland!!! What a view! And no storm! And it's group picture time!!

-From the pass, we head down to our final destination - La Peule. Along the way we saw beautiful pastures...and cows! We reached the Refuge earlier than expected (approx 1:30pm). The best part of this refuge is...the hay bed!! Yes we slept on hay! I have to say it was quite comfortable...but it was quite cold during the night.

-We arrived early so it was pretty much 'free time' for the rest of the afterboon...There aren't much to do in the mountains, sowe sat in a barn, wood burning fireplace roaring...nothing to do but chit-chat and played cards. We shared a few games of "Slap", I felt like a kid all over again! And tonight was the first time I had a chance to enjoy a Swiss traditional meal - Croute du fromage. A baked dish with bread (soaked in white wine), tomatoes, oregano, onions, 5-inches of cheese on top...and to top it off - one fried egg!! After dinner wine - Grappa...genepi flowing like it's free...

-An interactive game of Moffia was played until almost midnight...then I had to my hay bed...felt like I was in "Charlette's web"...
