It was almost four o'clock by the time we arrived from Heathrow to Dublin Airport, just a fifty minute flight, but with hours of waiting to get there.
We collected our car, a Nissan Almera automatic, and followed a tortuous pathway through the construction sites and road works to the ring road, and out into the countryside.
The airconditioning was non existent-we are so conditioned ourselves to adjustable air it was far more of a problem than the temperature warranted. The lumbar support was strange-the car had done over eighty thousand kilometres. Once again, we were surprised at the few automatics available in Europe.
However, the car was powerful and smooth to drive, and we quickly had the kilometres behind us.
