We're Wingin' It travel blog

10th & last night from J P Coleman State Park, near Iuka, in the NE corner of Mississippi.

Here we are almost to the end of our fifth month of living full-time in the bus & we are still expunging supplies that were brought out from our offices, the house or the other vehicles.

I guess when you consolidate 2 offices, a full house with 3 bedrooms & 2 ½ baths, 4 vehicles (Vicki's car, my car, the dually truck & the bike) with what we already had stashed here in the bus from ten years or so of owning an RV of some type, you just end-up with a bunch of stuff.

Today as I was looking in our "grooming" drawer for a new blade for my razor, I found 2 single-blade disposable razors, a double-blade razor handle & blade, a triple-blade razor & handle, a packet of quad-blades for the razor that I have been using......all just for me.

I also found 8 nail clippers; when I asked Vicki to guess how many I found, she replied that she had just thrown 2 other pair away.

I am alternating using two kinds of shampoo & conditioner, trying to get rid of the one that we will not be using in the future. I have already finished-off a third kind that we had.

We have recently been enjoying a variety of flavors of iced tea after Vicki realized that neither of us had used a single tea bag from the 2 boxes of flavored tea bags intended for hot teas.....sometimes you have to improvise a bit to get usage from what you have.

I know the simple thing would be just throw-away or give-away what we are not using......but that seems so wasteful since we paid good money for them!!!!

A couple of nights ago I was telling Vicki that I am likely going to leave some of the clothes that I brought with the others that I left behind in our 5 x 5 storage cube when we hit Franklin this weekend.

This whole transition over the past few months has really been a lesson to me in how much "stuff" we think we need to have versus how much of it we really do need & use.

And I thought that we had already down-sized & cleaned-out in two previous house moves, from 3200 sq ft to 2500 sq ft to 1900 sq ft now to 400 sq ft!!!!!! No wonder I was soooooo tired a few years ago when we moved-out from what I now realize was a monster house.......lugging all of that "stuff" from one house to another.

Yesterday, since we were so close to it, we rode back over to the Tiffin factory to pick-up some parts about which we had been dallying. If we had thought enough ahead of time we would have gotten them last week when we were there, but that would have required too much forethought & planning.

We got new windshield wiper blades, some lamp bulbs, grout powder to repair some areas in the bathroom tile that have cracked & some touch-up paint. I replaced the bulbs last night, replaced the wiper blades & did the touch-up paint today.

Since Vicki was doing a major cleaning & laundry inside today, I thought it best not to be messing with a grout job in the middle of the bus.....that job can wait until another day. I offered last night, asking how I could help her today....she told me the best I could do was to stay out of her way, which I am good at.

This morning when we got up we noticed that there seemed to be a haze & scent of smoke in the air. The local radio station explained that we were getting the drift from the forest fires in Georgia & Florida.

When I heard that, it made total sense from the evidence. What didn't make sense is that we were getting it from south Georgia & Florida here in north Mississippi. That smoke had traveled probably 300-400 miles north & about the same distance WEST!!!!!!!

There wasn't much happening here today except the tasks that I've mentioned above & occasionally some small tasks to prepare to leave fairly early tomorrow.

We are planning to make it to Lewisburg, about 50 miles south of Nashville by 1:00 PM or so to see Kelly, our favorite hair person. To make that, we will need to leave here by 8:00 AM or so to avoid any rush in our travel.....heaven forbid that!!!!!!!!!

We are a little bit early for our "treatments", but the timing is right for us to stop in there. Right now we're not sure whether we will stay there in Lewisburg for the night, or go on to Franklin, either place we will be staying with Uncle Wally or Cousin Sam.

It became very obvious today that we would be evicted from here if we were not voluntarily leaving.

The park rangers posted notes on every campsite (nothing personal to us, apparently it is just their regular procedure) of the dates that the site was reserved for the Memorial Day weekend; some for 2 days, some for 3, some for 5 or more.

Our site is due to have new occupants arriving tomorrow. Several new tenants have been rolling-in throughout the day today.

I guess that is what it is today.
