Today was a travel day. We got a very late start & traveled 175 miles so we only stopped along the way once for lunch. It was too windy to eat outside, so we had a quick bite in the 5'er & were back on the road within 15 minutes. The temperature varied from 68 to 78 along the way, mostly around 72. And the scenery was as varied as the temperature!
Within just a few miles of leaving Santa Fe we began climbing. You will see from the pics that it became very green with lots more trees right away. Our 2 lane road certainly didn't look like an Interstate! And Las Vegas certainly didn't look like "our" Las Vegas! LOL
There were fields of beautiful wildflowers, then miles of grassland, with plenty of antelope & cattle making use of it! We finally arrived in Raton, NM about 4pm & checked in to the Cedar Rail Campground & RV Park. A small but pretty place. Since we are only staying one night, we left the truck hooked up. I got dinner going while Larry hooked up the utilities. The air is so fresh & clear here, I love it! It's gonna be a bit colder here tonight though, down around 40. We met a group of 6 RV'ers that are traveling together & took a tour of one of their new motorhomes. Beautiful! Nice folks. Aren't all of us RV'ers that way though!!!
We enjoyed a pretty little sunset, then watched American Idol (go Jordin!) & finally watched the Finale of Dancing with the Stars. A nice, peaceful evening. We are heading into Colorado in the morning. Another nearly 175 mile drive. I made our 1st ever reservation because of Memorial Day weekend & we want to arrive before the crowd. We picked this park out of the Passport America book. Hope we aren't disappointed as we will be there for the next 6 days! The brochures show lots to do in the area, so I am sure it will be fine...if not, I'll catch up on some reading! And watch the clouds go by...heaven!
