View of Pacific from the Hotel Restaurant

Municipal Palace

at The Mall

It was a good day in Lima. We started off with the breakfast buffet at the Observatory Restaurant at the top of the hotel. There were incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, the city, and Domodossola Park which was at the foot of the hotel. The city looked a lot better (safer) during the day.

Afterward, we walked thru the park and up Avenue de Jose Larco, which is the main Avenue in Miraflores. We visited various shops, a typical department store, and walked around a good portion of the non-touristy sections of the neighborhood. We tried to buy stamps and postcards at the local post office but they didnt sell anything on Sunday, even though they were open. Go figure. We stopped at a bodega and tried a Inca Cola for 80 centamos (30 cents US). Tasted like cream soda. For lunch we went to Tierra Libre, local place where no one spoke english. We managed to order food that we recognized and even had the local specialty drink, a pisco sour. That cost about 30 soles ($10 US), this is good life!. After that, it was more walking around and then back to the hotel. Though it was cloudy, the sun is very strong down here so it is easy to get tired.

We had dinner back at the hotel and then back up to the Observatory for night time views of the city and Pacific Ocean. There is a heated outdoor pool there, but it was too late and chilly for that. We have an early flight to Cusco so its siesta time.
