Busy day in Hannibal
May 13, 2007
|Yesterday began quietly enough. Marilyn and I had our morning coffee with soft music, as we talked about places we want to visit when we leave here.
Marilyn had volunteered to work in the gift shop so she dressed for work and then we took a walk around the campground. It is so nice to walk around a quiet campground early in the morning. The cool morning temperature calls the campers to build campfires and the campfire calls some to cook outdoors. This fills the campground with the aroma of wood fires and bacon frying over a campfire. It just gives us a wonderful sense of peace and joy.
After Marilyn left for the short walk to work, I headed into town with the truck. I was on a mission to get many things accomplished, beginning with a haircut. As I parked across the street from the barbershop, my cellphone rang. It was Sherry in San Antonio, which delighted me. I had been thinking about calling her and Rick, just to visit for awhile. We spoke of our upcoming cruise to Alaska together, which we had planned before Marilyn and I became full-time RVers. We also talked about Rick & Sherry's visit to Missouri next month and a class reunion in September. I love hearing from old friends and we had a great visit.
After my haircut, I drove to the electronics store to discuss my DISH service. I will get the antenna set up next week, I hope, and I would like to be able to get local channels. They assured me that it would be no problem.
I made a stop at one of the local banks to deposit some checks. I received my Kansas tax refund and another check which was a total surprise. Flight Safety sent me a bonus check for last year. I had not expected to get that since I had retired at the end of September.
Then it was on to the car wash, to get some of the grime off the truck.
With a reasonably clean truck I now made the trip to the grocery store. Since Marilyn was working all day, I decided that I would have dinner for her when she got home. I picked up a couple of rib eye steaks, salad fixin's, fresh sweet corn, strawberries, and other needed supplies before returning home. I watched a bit of the golf tournement, then began preparing for dinner. I had onions and mushrooms to cook together, salad, steaks, corn-on-the-cob, and strawberries with ice cream for dessert. Sorry, I didn't get any pictures taken this time. :)
Marilyn came home a bit early so we sat together with a glass of wine and then I began preparing the meal while she changed clothes. She helped me with everything once she was dressed, and we ate until we were stuffed. We then went for a walk again, even though she complained about being on her feet all day. :)
We cleaned up the kitchen, watched a little TV and went to bed at 9:00 PM. Both of us were tired so we needed a good night of sleep. Tomorrow is Mothers' Day and a time to think about and give credit to that wonderful lady in our life. I said a prayer this morning and asked God to give Mom a hug for me. Ladies, may God Bless all of you.
Well, time to have coffee and get started on this day. Can't wait to see what is in store......
