Harry and Judy's Alaskan Adventure 2007 travel blog

May 5th

We spent the entire day at the antique center until we both were pooped - bought several boxes of books that we shipped home. It was cloudy with misty rain blowing in the wind - a good day to spend indoors.

May 6th - Mile 972

A pure Interstate day. Sundays are good Interstate days - fewer trucks and less traffic in general. Finished all of Ohio and Indiana before lunch and then did more than half of Illinois in the afternoon. Ohio improved in the western half - not exactly beautiful - just not so awful ugly. Indiana was better than Ohio. Somewhere in western Indiana the prairie officially begins, Where that exactly occurs is a bit of a mystery - we saw a little plot of land that was labeled "Prairie Restoration." As far as we could tell prairie restoration consisted entirely of not mowing. The soil however is beautiful - one of the major strengths of our nation. We're staying at our first Good Sam campground - Galesburg East Best Holiday Trav-L-Park - a definite improvement. It is set in a grove of trees with well-maintained hook ups - and finally Internet connectivity. Galesburg, if we are not mistaken was the birthplace of Carl Sandburg.
