Heart of Ohio Antique Center

May 3rd - Mile 319

Traveled 319 miles to New Stanton, PA. Missed the planned turn off for the PA turnpike but didn't mind a bit. Continued on through Amish country which was clean and beautiful. Fields were bright green and yellow with mustard flowers -Amish girls on bicycles -horse and buggies. Took up half the day. Picked up the PA turnpike in Adamstown - still familiar territory. Turnpike through Lancaster County was lavender with red buds just blooming. Spring disappeared in the mountains. Truck handled very well. Made up some time cruising at 75mph. Layla is a bit cranked up. We think she wants to go home. She'll get used to the camper soon enough. Bird highlight - Indigo Bunting at campground in New Stanton.

May 4th - Mile 567

Three states today, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. Drove entirely on Interstate 70. We drove through Wetzel County, W. Va. Where we once owned a little mountain top farm. The welcome sign no longer reads "Almost Heaven." It now reads "Open for business" - Yuk! - but a comment on the economic problems of the state. Ohio flattened out quickly. There's only one word to describe Ohio around the Interstate - ugly. Arrived at our destination of Springfield , Ohio about 1:30 and visited the Heart of Ohio Antique Center. This is the largest antique center in the world (they say) with a selling area of over 116,00 sq. ft in eight connected buildings.. Bought a small stack of books for the business but the real coup was four cabinet cards of Indians - one being Chief Joseph. We could only manage two and a half buildings before pooping out. We will go back tomorrow.
