We drove over the Cascade Mountains and although we saw a lot of snow it was a pleasant drive. The first campground we arrived at wasn't what we were looking for and we really were too big. I tried a fancy move and put the first damage on DD. I was backing up without Brian, thinking I'm good with the camera and I did see where I was going over a log but I couldn't see a small post that was vertical. It went under the bumper but not without cracking the fiberglass. It was extremely unfortunate and a cigarette would've helped the healing but in the end, we all survived...me, Brian, Spencer and DD, too.
We continued up the peninsula to Hoodsport where we stayed at the Rest-a-while RV Park which had sites right on the Hood Canal. We were greeted by a couple of Bald Eagles flying overhead. It was spectacular and Brian immediately found the silver lining saying that it was a good omen...knowing I was still upset about the damage to DD.
On the 2nd of May we toured with Spencer. We drove over a floating bridge that is almost a mile long and totally filled with traffic. I thought it was quite trippy. Port Gamble was a logging town that. It was the longest continuously operating mill, from mid 1800's to 1995. It is still owned by the company, I think, because the city workers were mowing and trimming every houses' yard. We drove to have lunch at Poulsbo (little Norway). This town has a theme but nothing like Leavenworth with the Bavarian theme. This was actually founded by a couple Norwegian families and it just kept growing. It was supposed to be called Paulsbo but the Postmaster General back in the 1890's couldn't read the handwriting, and there you have it.
Following lunch Spencer was feeling the effects of a touring day. His eyes were getting more bloodshot and droopy. We brought him home then went to a local wine tasting room to sample the local fair. Hoodsport Winery is known for their Raspberry Wine. It's sweet and made from 100% raspberries. Needless to say we didn't buy a bottle.
We moved onto Port Townsend on the 3rd and will be here for a few days. More to come!!
