Another "beat the streets" day spent at the Indonesian Consulate, the Thai Consulate, the Qantas Airlines office and the travel agent. We got the details for impromptu visa applications and found that not only was it quicker to get a Thai visa, it was also cheaper to fly to Bangkok rather than Bali, Indonesia. That pretty much sealed the deal; Bangkok, here we come! We can always fly to Bali from Bangkok later so there was no problem there. With that settled, we re-focused our efforts on getting around Australia. We had a credit with Qantas (from the Auckland-Christchurch debacle) so we decided to fly to Brisbane, rent a car and drive throughout the state of Queensland. Australia is HUGE; we had no hope of seeing even a quarter of it so we decided to "really" see Queensland. We decided not to book anything for the Reef until we actually got to it so that we could at least make an informed decision.
