Verse of the Dutch Lullaby

The drive through the Alleghenies was richly rewarding as we cruised through old villages with stone courthouses, old churches, Victorian homes and gas street lamps. I stopped and strolled down shady streets to town greens where bandstands, memorials and fountains abound as focal points.

We took a side trip to the Kinzua Bridge State Park to view the 310' tall railroad bridge built in 1882. It was the tallest railroad bridge in the world when it was erected. The bridge was in use till 2005 when a tornado took out a large section of the bridge. The park is a lovely setting where we picnicked at.

At the village of Wellsboro, built in 1806, the town green features a bronze statue of a beloved Dutch lullaby.
