April 15-18, 2007
Due to the overpriced hotels because of the world cup the 4 of us traveling together jumped into a room with two single beds, so it was nice and cozy for us. We hired a car for the 4 days that we were going to spend in Grenada. First thing we did was jump in the car and head to the clear waters of Grand Anse beach, a great beach on the Caribbean Sea. As we settled on the beach with a few beers Damo, Warwick and I decided to jump into a bit of beach cricket with a couple of the local kids, I must say that they really do love their cricket over there. We got the chance to catch up with a few of the boys from back home in QLD (Noodles, Foaty and Co) so it was good to see some familiar faces again, and more important have a good Aussie conversation (no Spanish needed).
Waking up the next day it was time to get into the cricket to watch the Aussies whip Sri Lanka, so as you do in Grenada we hailed down a taxi van, gave him $1 per person and squeezed 19 people in for our journey to the ground about 20 minutes away. This time at the cricket we had party stand tickets so we basically cracked the first beer at 10:30am and sat on the grass hill as Australia started taking some early wickets. By the lunch time break the whole party stand was an electrifying atmosphere (alcohol related of course), the DJ of the party stand was pumping out the tunes, and because of the enormous amount of aussies in the crowd there were many sing alongs such as the national anthem, waltzing matilda, vegemite song, pretty much anything aussie was sung with gusto by the crowd. The day was great and celebration went on til late in the night, or early that morning we probably walked in the door at about 6am after a night out at bananas night club.
Even though we had a good time at the cricket, we still did something constructive the next day. We jumped in the car and headed inland Grenada to the seven waterfalls, along the way enjoying the scenic drive through the lush green forest surroundings. We only made it to the first two waterfalls and had a chance to refresh with a swim in the swimming hole directly under the fall (not a very big fall I must add). We were all pretty stuffed by the end of the day and had a good night sleep in preparation to arrive at Miami for an overnight stay, before heading to Mexico for a week.
