Puerto Maldonado - Gateway to the Amazon

Today we take a morning flight to Puerto Maldonado which is the gateway to the Amazon River Basin. Upon landing, we are taken up river in a motorized canoe to the lodge we will stay in for two nights. There is no electricity and no hot water. Light is by kerosene lantern and we will sleep in open air huts. Mosquito nets a must.

The Tambopata area includes habitats ranging from the Andean highlands around the rivers' headwaters through some of the last remaining intact cloud forests to the lowland rainforests of the Amazon basin.
