Sorry about thte delay in updates but we have had technical problems that started with a flat battery!
From Grosseto we drove to the coast to visit a national park - Parco Regionale della Maremma. This was a long stretch of coast with surf (the first we had seen), grey sand and old watch towers. They are conducting major regeneration (placing dead trees in the sand) as they have lost significant amounts of costal sand dunes over the past 50 years.
From here we headed down the coast to Porto Santo Stefano - supposedly the home of expensive villas, g-strings and Porsches. It was quaint and is connected to the mainland by 3 narrow strips surrounded by large lagoons.
Now we are heading inland to cover the picturebook Umbria and Tuscany. Our fist stop is the hot springs at Saturnia right in the middle of Southern Tuscany. The drive was beautiful via many back roads - thank god for the GPS - TomTom is our best friend. Greg's sense of direction in Italy is about 50% and so is mine.
The hot springs were great - full of German speaking tourists and smelled bad but fixed Greg's latest cold right up. The B&B we picked was lovely and we had the best breakfast ever made by a beautify Mama who talked to us despite the language barrier and it was all home cooked except for the brad which was cooked in town by an Aussie chef.
