Sitting at a table in Dunsborough, sampling the wares of the Margaret River Chocolate Company, gives pause to wonder why one is leaving our wonderful country.
At different times of the day, John and I climbed on Canal Rocks, watched the surfers at Yallingup and chatted to our neighbours, here at Bay Village Resort, in the heart of Dunsborough. Development is progressing briskly. At one place we saw today, near Vasse, they were replacing paddocks with a university or Tafe college. At Smith's Beach, we checked out some more or less finished units, to be had for a price in the range of $695 000 for a one bed roomed unit, to $2.75 million for four bedrooms. The beach warranted the prices, not so sure about the units.
Driving on the highways and byways, we are amazed at the number of 4 wheel drives on the road. Our first one was purchased in 1979, when 4 wheel drives were the exception rather than the rule. Today, they are almost de rigueur.
At Canal Rocks, a new slipway and small jetty have been built to launch trailer boats for a day of fishing or diving, in the clear waters. The pad is protected from the enormous swells that make Canal Rocks so fascinating. The powers that be seemed to be erecting one of the new toilet blocks we saw in the Stirling Ranges, last year. They are eco-friendly, and only found in WA.
Tomorrow, Easter Sunday, Mass in the little country church will be followed by a day of chasing seascapes along the coastline. We love just touring through the countryside, calling in to the beaches along the shoreline. The paddocks are very dry and brown, except for pockets of couch and kikuya in low lying valleys. The vines are turning to autumn tones.
My bike has a puncture after my riding it along the foreshore of old Dunsborough on the first morning, so that has put paid to any further perambulations. It's shank's pony for the remainder of the stay.
We have been told we must dine at the Food Farmacy, so will do that tomorrow night. Bits of chocolate are melting all over my computer mouse, so must sign off for tonight.
