9pm fireworks from rushcutters bay

our shed on water! my cameras last ever pic- 2 mins later...

Bit of a crazy one! All the spots in town get filled up super early- like at 10am, so we avoided the crazy crowds and went to Rushcutters bay with all of Priya's house mates and other mates- about 25 backpackers in total! Spent avo playing cricket & chilling in the park- avoided drinking till later on as nursing hangovers from noels party the night before. Watched the 9pm fireworks from the harbour, then at 11pm we'd organised a boat- all last minute, about 30 backpackers in total all crammed onto this floating shed! Priya had been drinking my (pretty lethal) punch all avo so I feel slightly responsible for what happened next- she was a wee bit tipsy & posing on side of the boat- next thing there was a splash and she was staring up at us all very sheepishly floating in the water beside the mooring ropes! Poor gal was pretty mortified- dripping wet and fully dressed! (That's one of the reasons why the website is so out of date- my camera was destroyed as it was in her bag, so from Jan-April I havent been able to take any pics!) We wrapped her up the ship's blanket, she passed out a bit later (non falling in related, entirely alcohol)- it had happened before when her and Krista got mugged in Hye Park, so we kept an eye on her and put her in the recovery position- just needed to sleep it off- unfortunately no matter what I did I couldnt get her to wake up for the midnight fireworks-she was pretty gutted at missing them! Got some fab photos with her camera which was amazingly still working despite the bath- will load them soon. They lasted for ages- was amazing, every second was a Koak moment, and seeing it all from the water really made it.

Priya was still fast asleep when we got back to land, all was ok as her blokey house mates were taking turns carrying her- until she got dropped on her head! Obviously with her not being awake before it happened we got pretty worried in case some damage had been done- we flagged a passing tzxi to take is to the nearest hospital..the driver took one look at passed out Priya and refused to take us. We then tried a cop car who told us legally they weren't allowed to take anyone to a hospital! Thankfully the copper decided to check Priya out- and shinging his flashlight in her eyes actually got her to come around. She was fine and pretty mortified to see a copper staring at her- we checked with her if she wanted to go to hospital- think she had a bit of a flash back to the last time she was in this situation (Hyde Park)- and the money it cost her (no NHS here- the ambulance trip cost her $200 last time, so much for a cheap nite out- started well with free champers, always dangerous!), and was quite adampent she was fine and just wanted to go home! Meanwhile I checked my phone which had also survived the harbour dip, and had loads of missed calls, voicemails and texts from worried family members- apparently in all the comotion at some point my passport fell out my bag near the dock- my parents had received a call from some Indian tourist who found it- and when they couldnt get through on the phone (networks kinda busy new year, and I couldn't here it as all pretty noisy when they did ring) they paniked- thinking I'd been mugged or something, and proceeded to call the rest of the family in Britain to see if they'd heard from me- who then all tried to call me too! Coming from a family of 7 kids that was a lot of calls! Oh well, have to say it was a pretty eventful new year, and totally different from last years one in Nicks farmhouse in Wales!
