We hope to leave in about a month. Now comes the final preparation. Here is how we will begin.

How:

1. 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500D pickup with a long bed and extended cab featuring:

a. Duramax Diesel V8 engine. 6 liters, 360HP rated at 22 mpg (actually 14mpg with loaded camper.) Also rated as the cleanest burning "V" at time of manufacture.

b. Allison 6 speed automatic transmission. Computer controlled to adjust automatically to road conditions and driving habits to yield highest fuel efficiency.

c. Automatic 4 wheel drive.

2. 2004 Lance slide on camper. Bought used but still smelled new. Features a queen size bed, refrigerator/freezer, stove and oven, kitchen sink, bathroom with shower (also outside shower), 30 gallon water tank, heat and airconditioning, and generator.

Modifications:

1. Brush Guard.

2. Extra shock absorbers from camper overhang to truck fenders.

3. Roadmaster active suspension installed above leaf springs of truck. Eliminates rock and sway and doubles payload of truck.

What's going with us:

The dog.

Five fishing rods and allied tackle (first things first).

Two cameras (Nikon D50 digital and Nikon N80 film with 7 automatic lens compatible with both bodies).

Two pair of binoculars.

Tools: Complete set of mechanics tools; rechargeable vacuum, drill, and chain saw; bow saw, axes, hand winch, hydraulic jack, shovel, oiler, small compressor.

Dell laptop computer.

About 65 music CDs.

Books for reference and entertainment.

Pots, pans, dishes, microwave and toaster.

Small propane grill.
