We are really getting around now. We ditched the car yesterday at the airport in Hannover, then took a two hour train ride to Berlin. Berlin is a big city, very big. The area encompassed by the former West Berlin alone is 4 times the size of Paris. Even with most of the attractions located in the middle of the city, getting everywhere on foot just is not realistic. Luckily, public transit is excellent and user-friendly. We rode the subway four times today as we explored sites around town. Berlin feels very safe. I'm not sure if that is really true, but it sure FEELS true. Oddly, though, we have seen armed guards in front of three buildings; all were Jewish synagogues or museums. Maybe the city is not really safe for everyone.
Today's highlights: a most excellent museum focused on Art Nouveau and Art Deco, another Palace (Schloss Charlottenburg), Potsdammer Platz, the Brandenburg Gate, and the Reichstag. Oh, we also had some of the best Thai food ever, at least outside of Thailand.
