Subic Bay was once the bustling headquarters of the US Naval Operations in the PI and is now handed over to the local gove for development. Now here re shopping centers, hotels, a freeport zone and other attractions on beutiful by front property. The whole port is surrounded by beautiful mts and jungle on the shores of the South China Sea. I can just about imgine the port full of Naval ships coming and going during the encounter with the Japanese who tried to take over the PI. Olongapo itself is like a busy ant hill with 1000's of workers going to and from..people living on top of people. There is no flat land sothey build houses going up steep hills one on top of the other. The streets are packed with small ( I mean small ) shops, of every imaginable service for auto, home, self, eating, trading, buying. Tons of tricycles and jeepneys create the worse traffic snarl Ive ever seen along with horific polution. Outside of town is a Riviera...where the service men ofter retreted...this is where I stayed right on the beach. However the resors are deterioration for lack of repair and maintenance. PI women work the bars and each bar has it's own singing band of girls who are very good and very professional singers. Singing is the bigest recretional activity in the PI. Next stoop TAAL Vocano.
