|After the beauty of Milford Sound, we wondered what next. Curio Bay is a cute little surf village on the south bit of the Sout Island. The surf can get quite epic apparently with stand-up barrels, but that coulda just been stoner hippy impress-the-tourist kak. There was a nice little break there though so maybe its not only the weed talking.
We splashed out here and rented a beautiful cottage right on the beach, with the largest king-size bed (made out of drift-wood) that I have ever seen. We chilled here a few days, watching the cutest little Hector Dolphins surfing in the shorebreak. These are the smallest dolphins in the world, with the adult no more than 1 metre in length (compared to he 4 metres of the Bottlenose). They are supr friendly too, so you can stand in the shorebreak and they swim right up to you and join you in a body surf.
In this respect, NZ has been superb, what with these Hectors and with us swimming with Bottlenoses in Abel Tasman. Its always high on people's list of things to do and we got to do it twice in about a week.
