Skyrocketing temperatures were the order of the day again, and we were glad to have a free day. Some of our group went on a tour to Celestun to see the flamingo colony. After spending a lot of time in Florida, this tour held little interest for us.
Following a leisurely breakfast, we did some grocery shopping and went to McDonald's with Hutch for our hamburger and grease fix for lunch. We love to buy fruit here; they have many varieties of fruit not available at home and we love to sample all of it. Of course, we have to sanitize it with bleach to be sure we don't get ill with the dreaded tourista. So far, we've been very lucky in all our travels.
We had our tour briefing and we're on the road again tomorrow bound for Chichen Itza.
Unfortunately, one of our couples had a car accident with their tow car. They were stopped at a red light and a young man driving a big Ford decided he didn't need to stop and rear-ended them. In Mexico, driving is a lot like in Italy; red lights are merely suggestions to slow down. This is a very scary ordeal in Mexico. The other driver had no insurance, which they say is pretty common, and the car is no longer tow-able. They're hoping their insurance company totals it but that's highly unlikely.
