Arrived on Easter Island at 11am this morning after a 5 and a half hour flight. We're now only 5 hrs behind UK time so I'm slowly catching up with you again!

The island is lovely -very different to Mo'orea (no limpid bluey green lagoons here) but it has lush, rolling green hills, wild waves (great for surfing) and when you catch your first glimpse of a Moai statue it's breathtaking.

The capital of Hanga Roa is pretty small and only really consists of two main streets. There are road names on the map, but you'll be lucky to see any street markings when you're walking around. Luckily, it's pretty impossible to get lost, although I think a torch will be useful for walking around after dark! I'm back at the low end of budget accomodation so definitely a change from my Tahitian bungalow but it's fine and the couple who own the place are very friendly. Weatherwise, it's a pleasant 72F but it rains a lot as I've discovered in the last few hours. The only thing to really worry about are the mozzies. It's a bit disconcerting when the first bit of information you get when you've just stepped off the plane is about the prevalence of dengue fever. I've already got a few new bites to add to the collection so you just have to hope that you're not getting eaten by one of the dengue carrying ones.

I've been up to the Museum which was really interesting and has given me a lot of background for my guided tour tomorrow. I also saw some really impressive Moai statues so that was fab without even having to travel out of the town.

That's all for now but will update more tomorrow and hopefully attach some pics. I just need to adjust to Spanish now after all the French in Mo'orea.
