Apo Island Feb 3rd to 7th.

In our quest to find the best beaches and snorkeling of the Philippines we headed to Apo Island. It's a little 72 hectare island and the home of the most successful Marine Reserves in the Philippines.

We stayed in the hotel which was owned by the great grand daughter of the first person to ever live on the island. "Liberty" at the age of 12 was voted by the island villagers as the new Chief and Island leader when her grandfather passed away. Although, very young she assumed the role and within her realm as leader, started the Apo Island Marine Reserve and Fish Sanctuary. The coral and fish life was virtually dead due to dynamite fishing but now after 15 years of rebirth, the island is home to some of the best diving and snorkeling in the Philippines.

As you will see in the photos .... our mountain top room was amazing & made us feel like royalty. (it was in fact Liberty's master bedroom before they decided to rent it out and sleep in the back).
