On Monday, the 5th, we moved over to Katherine Landing, part of the Lake Mead National Recreation area. What a lovely campground! We are ringed by mountains which change color with the sun - sometimes dusty browns, sometimes brilliant vermillion, sometimes shimmering gold.

The campground has 4 tiers that overlook Lake Movhave

Around each site (which are quite wide although short for some of you 40 footers) are desert trees and large green bushes. I think these bushes flower in the spring and summer with bright pink and white blooms.

, coyotes have an evening choral session, and hummingbirds live in our tree. We decided to buy a cheap hummingbird feeder to see if we could attract them, and it was no problem. Almost immediately, the birds began to appear

I love sitting outside in the sun, reading, sleeping, or just looking at the beautiful surroundings. I have developed a true appreciation of the desert on this leg of our journey. Before it had always just been a hot, barren place, but being here in the winter allows you to see its loveliness.

At night, we turn on the generator and get into our cozy cabin,

We're only about ten minutes from Aunt Kaki. She drove in last Friday and we enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Even though I had picked up a cold (probably in the casinos) and it was really nice to be able to just relax and read while the worst was upon me. No "I've got to go to work anyway." or "I've got to call a sub and make up lesson plans"

Jeff has been doing some minor repairs that have cropped up. I've been mostly reading. We go into Bullhead City or Laughlin every few days. It's nice that there is not only a Super Walmart, but also a Sam's only a few minutes away. We get the wilderness and whatever amount of civilization we want.
