this is a sad sight to see, this whole neighborhood was historical
a view to the beach that Katrina hit head-on
a walkway from the local college, gone....it went out to a pier...
one of the many homes gone!
driving along the beach area
another view of the horrible devastation in this area
another house, gone!
it just goes on and on
shore along Waveland, Mississippi
just the poles left standing
this house sums it up for all the horrible sights we saw...
right along the shoreline
the sight we saw a lot of.....a trailer on the lot where...
a driveway to a house that is gone
any buyers?????
it started pouring rain on us as we drove along the beach...
another beach front view
that's the Silver Slipper casino
....and for all my Tilly friends, the position she assumes while we're...
There is no way to describe the sights we saw today in and around Bay St. Louis and Waveland, Mississippi. Houses gone, clothes hanging from branches high up in the trees. Trash everywhere as people try to clean up their lots. Pole foundations are all that are left of some houses, other houses just the steps up to the front door are all that are left. People are living out of travel trailers. The shuttle bus driver who took us to the casino today told us that the casino area was under 30 feet of water. It is all surreal to experience. Photos don't even show the overwhelming effects of what Katrina did to this area.
Tomorrow we want to go to New Orleans for the day. The weatherman says the weather should be clear for the next several days. We think we'll try to move to the Natchez Trace area on Saturday or Sunday.
For all our RV friends, this is a excellant RV resort at the Hollywood Casino in Bay Saint Luis.
