I wish we had our camera this night when we turned into the parking lot of this charming roadside restaurant. Rebecca and I had wanted to find a good place to have a catfish dinner. We were told by other members at Thousand Trails-Lake Tawakoni that this place, The Catfish House Buffet was amongst the best.
When we entered we were greeted warmly by Marylin and Jim Walters, proprieters. Jim, as it turns out, is the chief cook/chef. For $14.00 each we had 2 styles of catfish, 1 chicken, 2 styles of big shrimp and a variety of other hot vegetables and a good salad bar. Though a new restaurant in the area, open for only 3 months, the Walters' have a winner here in both the atmosphere and the food preparation. When we walked in they were already busy, as we sat down they were busier yet, when we left they were still busy! We especially like the down home feel one gets when you sit down. While we ate, we both noticed the warmth and gregariousness of both Jim and Marilyn as they walked around to greet each and every table. There was not one item we both would not eat again. And yet there were several items we could've eaten much more. To note, the flagship item, catfish was terrific, the shrimp were huge, the pickled okra was perfect.
You'll find them on Highway 276, West Tawakoni, TX. phone 903-447-9500 and note that they are open Fri & Sat nights only, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Bon Apetite ! ! !
