We're now about 40 miles further south in Mission. Founded in 1824 by Oblate Fathers, credited with being the first to plant citrus in this region, the area is now well known for Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit. We've been buying oranges and grapefruit from roadside stands and it is really good fruit.
We're staying at Bentsen Grove RV Park, home to a mix of Winter Texans and transients like us. Foxy is in heaven.
Los Ebanos Ferry, about 17 miles south of here is thought to be the last remaining hand-drawn ferry in the country. It transports three cars and several passengers across the Rio Grande at a time.
