On this day we decided to take the car out towards Mt. Fuji. This is the big cone-shaped mountain that you see in every movie about Japan. It's only about 40 miles west of us, but it took at least 1 1/2 hours to get there. We went via Route 413, which is narrow, twisty, and crosses several ridges. This was the biggest workout our little Colt has gotten so far. This area really reminds me of the NC mountains, and Jess said the road reminded her of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
When we got to Mt. Fuji, we had lunch along the shore of Lake Yamanaka ... this is one of five large lakes around the base of Mt. Fuji. Then we drove south a little in search of Fuji Speedway.
As most of you know, we really like Formula 1 racing. And Fuji Speedway is where they are running the Japan Grand Prix this year. So, we'll be back out there this fall to see the race, if we can get tickets (!). The track was really nice. They were having a track day of some sort while we were there. So, a lot of guys/gals were running their sports cars around the track ... we saw a couple nice Ferraris, one Corvette, bunches of Porsches & BMWs, an Aston Martin, Minis, etc.
We started back home when the sun started getting low. We stopped at Lake Yamanaka again to take some more pictures of the mountain ... next time we'll drive up it. We checked out a really nice hotel there too ... not cheap!!
Later,
Jim
