Biking Lake Taupo

Trout on the Trail

Right now I'm sitting at Max's Cafe in Taupo drinking a Mochaccino and watching Trout try to eat a giant stack of pancakes. I don't think he's going to be able to eat them all.

It's raining today.

The last week has been really nice. The kids and I have enjoyed just being here in Taupo. We've worked on schoolwork, spent a little time in the pool each day, and taken a few walks. This weekend we rented some bikes and took a ride around the lake. It was a clear sunny day, and we all ended up just a little burned afterwards. Not too bad though.

We will be here until the 14th, and then have to head back to Auckland to return the camper van on the 15th. I have mixed feelings about our experience with the van. On the one hand, it's been really fun seeing New Zealand in this way. The camper parks here are extremely nice, and Kenzy and Trout have made lots of friends through spending so much time outside. I love seeing them interact with kids from all over the world. A few weeks ago they met a boy from Brazil who didn't speak any english, but managed to find a way to play Twister together anyway. Kenzy said it was a really neat experience.

On the other hand, it's been pretty cramped accomodations. When Jason was here, the kids had to share a double bed, which they really didn't like! A few nights even ended in outrite protest with Kenzy sleeping on the floor underneath us.

I guess overall I would say it's been a good experience for us, but one I will probably not repeat again on this trip... at least, not without a 6 person motorhome!
