Sadly for Tim he had to work between Christmas and new year. Being a lady of leisure still I took off for a couple of nights camping with Drenka and Kathy. It was a beautiful day on the way down, we left early at 7am to make the most of it, stopping on route for some brekkie. The campsite was a short 500m walk from the car park, which doesn't sound far, but when you are carrying 2 tents, bedding, mats, food, drink and other camping essentials it is a very long way! The site also has only cold showers but after all the effort it didn't seem such a big deal!
We spent the afternoon hanging out around the campsite and beach, and being entertained by the wildlife. The following day we headed to another beach, near our other camping site, we ran into another couple who regularly camp with the camping 'crew'. They had hired a house for Christmas with some other friends. We popped around after a swim and a hot shower we sneaked at the other camp site.
As we left their luxury apartment to head back to the campsite dark clouds were gathering. We thought we may get away with a bit of a sprinkle after they didn't deliver the monsoon they threatened. We cooked some yummy pasta and hallomi salad for supper, and offered our leftovers to 2 guys camping nearby (Which they gratefully accepted).
After getting the BBQ going for some heat we got the first drops of rain. Within minutes the heavens opened and we ran for cover. We ended up huddled in the porch of one of the tents. Then the thunder and lightening started. The storm was right over us and the crack of thunder was deafening. We considered for a moment making a run for the car and driving over to stay at Mark and Sarah's luxury apartment. But then we decided to drink through it instead.Everything got soaked. All the pans we had left out were full to the brim with water, and the esky was sat in a puddle of mud. Packing up the next morning was not such fun! Luckily we scored a lift with the ranger to take some of our gear back up the hill which saved us some effort!
