Well, we decided to DRIVE down to Yokohama today. Note that I capitalized the drive part. You see, Yokohama is a the second largest city in Japan ... that means it's BIG! So, navigating was a challenge! Try driving through Chicago with only about half the road/street signs in English. Also, traffic was awful ... it took at least 2.5 hours to get there, and it's only about 30 miles away.

Anyway, once we got down there, we had a really nice day. We found a mexican restaurant for lunch. Mexican is pretty rare over here, so we were both excited. It was really good! We also toured an old ship called the Nippon Maru that they have permanently tied-up in an old dock in the middle of town ... Yokohama is a big port, so there's water and ships everywhere. The Nippon Maru was really cool. It was built in 1930 to train their merchant marine. It's very well preserved and taken care of.

We expected the shopping in Yokohama to be a little better. It's not bad, but you kinda get shopping overload over here after a while ... downtown Tokyo is awesome, and everything else pales by comparison.

We didn't make it to the Chinatown part of Yokohama, which we really want to see. We'll hit that next time ... when we ride the TRAIN down there.

Jim

PS: Jess says she's very proud of my navigation skills.
