Montezuma Castle

Montezuma Castle

Brenda. What a fabulous little place. We left Holbrook where we spent last night and started to head towards Joshua Tree. We went through Phoenix which had a huge amount of traffic. My attention was so much on the other drivers that I didn't even get to see what Phoenix looked like. We managed however to come across this little place and it's so nice. They even escorted us by 4wd motorbike to our site. We don't have a cable for the TV so they lent us one and told us of the café which we had dinner at.

I had the seafood and Mum the soup and salad. The staff are all on the older side which probably explains why the service and food was impeccable. Our waitress was gorgeous and chatted with us quite a bit. She really wants to come to Australia and asks if we could fit her into our bags. I tell you, she is so small, she could almost fit. Mum told her that I was taking her around the world and she said that her children wouldn't do that. I told her to tell them to sell their house and take her like I have with Mum. She thought it was hilarious and when we were leaving, after leaving her a very good tip, she gave me a big hug. How can you resist someone like that? Like I said, great place. Filled with great people.

The traffic was mostly cars were as yesterday it was almost all trucks and trains (245 trucks in the opposite direction in around 40 miles!!!). As it was Thanksgiving yesterday, I'm not sure but I think it is a holiday today as that could only explain the crowds. We pulled in to see Montezuma Castle, and got lucky with a parking bay without much

as there was a spot for RV's. However by the time we came out, all parking bays were taken by cars including two cars in every RV spot. Glad I could get out as they almost boxed me in. It was like a feeding frenzy.

They opened a lot of the stores as early as 5am for shoppers to go nuts today and get 'holiday savings'. Macy's in New York had a line around the corner. These are strange people. If I was a staff member, I'd be pissed. At least those out looking at the outdoor attractions are spending their time more wisely.

Yesterday we went to see the Meteor Crater in Arizona which has an example of the test module and it is also a 'test site' for Moon landings. It's where the astronauts often train. The crater, although deep, pales into comparison compared to one of Australia's which is about 45 times wider. Kind of a scary thought.

Finally got hold of Rich yesterday as well. Being Thanksgiving we got very lucky. Mum and he had a good chat and we are looking forward to catching up with him. He has much to show us including Palms Springs which is just down the road from him. He was a little overwhelmed at how much we have packed into this part of the country.

I have decided that if I can get a bus to Disneyland from somewhere near Rich, I'll head up there for a couple of days on my own so Mum doesn't have to go. She likes the idea and that way she can also get some time with just her and Rich and they can go and see other things. I can spend the night at a hotel there so no problems for me and lets face it, I'm sure I'll have fun.
