U2

More U2

The main activity today was getting back from Kangaroo Island before seeing U2 live in Adelaide. I won't bore you with the details of the travelling - it was the reverse of the journey yesterday - except to say that all of the locals on the ferry seemed to be going to the concert.

In fact, U2 coming to South Australia has been big news, making the television news, newspapers and radio. In the city, wherever we went all everyone was talking about seemed to be "THE concert" - how to get there, who was going etc. The tourist centre said that all hotels in the city were full booked, it was that big a deal. Have the Aussies never seen live acts here before?

Anyway, we went off to the concert with 60,000 others, which was at the Aussie rules football stadium on the outskirts of the city. U2 were their usual great selves, although we all felt they seemed slightly subdued compared to when we saw them in Manchester last year. It could have been the audience (I never thought I'd say this - but the Aussie audience were actually quite reserved), lack of alcohol (it was a "dry" concert) or weather (yes - still chilly). The show really is BIG- the screen effects are awesome and we felt well worth the effort of getting tickets.

Little known fact: Tim has now seen U2 play live on three continents (as well as the UK, he saw them in Philadelphia a few years ago). Tomorrow we're off to Tazmania for 4 days, with Nick flying in for the weekend as well.
