Dig your own jacuzzi!

We left Whangarei and pushed on down the coast to get ourselves to the Coromandel peninsula, having been told we must go there by a nice guy called Ben in the Cook Islands. On route we stopped at Goat Island which is NZ's first marine reserve and pretty in a rugged sort of way. The drive also took us back through Auckland , but been there and done that so didn't stop, only notable for the it being the only traffic jam in all NZ!

Got to Coromandel in the evening after yes, yet more bendy roads and pretty coastal scenery. Next day we headed out to the famous Hot Water Beach, which is a beach with hot water! These kiwis really know how to think up good place names! You dig a hole in a couple of spots on the beach and geothermal water bubbles up between your toes! Give it a minute and hey presto you have your own private spa bath! Trouble is the water is 64C! So hot, the Maori's used to cook in it! All good fun though.
