Another early start, as we have a flight to catch in the evening and still lots to do and see. We used the underground metro train system to go north, and visit the flower, fish and bird markets. The metro train system is really fast, clean and cheap - and has air conditioning, unlike the London Underground. A couple of times while looking at directions, or signs in the station, locals stopped to politely ask if we needed help!
The flower and fish markets are distinct areas in Hong Kong, each a couple of streets big, with all of the retailers grouped together. The flower market was fantastic, with a riot of colour and varieties - everything from carnations and roses to bridal bouquets.
The fish market (tropical fish), was in contrast quite sad - many of the fish were in tanks too small for them, and lots of small terrapins as well. The Chinese keep birds and fish as pets in the same way that we keep cats and dogs.
Finally, the bird market. This was full of song birds, all singing loudly, but seemed to be more of a "bird show" - with men (we didn't see one woman at the bird market) showing off their caged birds and gossiping (they all seemed to have just two or three each) rather than selling them. No one seemed to be buying any, and there weren't any prices. It's a Sunday morning hobby I suppose!
