Santiago - a beautiful city with the Andes as a back drop.

We checked into the Fundador hotel. We had booked this on the net and it wasn't too expensive. However it was a great hotel and we had a kingsize bed. Free breakfast and free internet, this is the way to do travelling !!! Unfortunately it could not last as we had only booked it for two nights and after some heated discussions we checked in to the hostel Londres. It was a clean hostel, and much cheaper !

During our stay in Santiago we walked most of the city. We had spanish lessons (5 hrs worth of private lessons). We went to a football match to see the local side Colo Colo beat La Serena 3 - 1. We went to a museum of old south american artefacts. We took a fernicular railway to the top of the mountain overlooking the city where a statue of the virgin mary stands. We also spent many hours in the Plaza del armes just watching the world go by. All in all we had a great time in Santiago and thought it was a lovely city. We also had a great meal in a restaurant (called the Louisiana steam pub).

On our last day in Santiago we went to the Maipo valley to one of the Vineyards, Concha Y torro. We took a tour around the cellar and the vines and of course tasted some of the fine wines ! It was a gorgeous day and although the bus took it's time to get there and back it was well worth it.
