We toured the battlefields here in Petersburg, then went to City Point where Grant's cabin was located for this part of the Civil War. Several great battles happened here. One long battle took nine months before the Confederates were defeated in this area. One battle called The Crater has a unique story behind it. The National Park Service did justice to the Petersburg battlefields, it is one of our favorites!
City Point was a very important place during the civil war and we had stumbled onto it, just by driving out to Appomattox Mansion! It is very, very pretty there. Glad we found it!
