Anne, Julia and I stopped in Pakse for the boat festival. The riverbanks were lined with thousands of people cheering the rowers on and many food vendors selling snacks. Yummy. It reminded me of a carnival at home with games, bouncy castles and small fairground rides for the kids. The atmosphere was very cheery, although the heat vertially unbearable (for us!).

We met up with a Seung, a Lao lad from Don Det. He took us out with his friends to celebrate the festival local stylee! The first 30 minutes was quite painful, being totally sober and being taken to a Karaoke and Disco Club at 7pm! We weren't quite expecting that so early! EVERYWHERE it seems in Asia loves their Karaoke and Laos is no exception. We eventually got into it, especially with the help of some Beer Lao (not that I drink beer usually. In this case it was needed!). The music seemed to then improve and thankfully the entertainment changed from karaoke videos to Lao pop with a touch of english music here and there to keep us going!!!
