Shadbolt European Holiday 2006 travel blog

Sept. 21st. It's a walking tour in Prague today. Our local guide is so much fun. Her name is Lenka and she calls herself Blah, Blah. Last night she was telling us ghost stories and today she has more stories and is quite entertaining. She's a wealth of information regarding the architectural history of the palaces and royalty and it's all so remarkable and OLD. Prague was founded in the 9th. Century. Our walking tour lasted 2 ½ hours and included the extensive palace area and a beautiful old church. This is where the money was spent on art - the stained glass windows and sculptures are truly works of art. It's just sad to realize that people were probably going hungry and very poor while such an extravagance was being spent on the church. We had nearly 4 hours of free time to just wander the square, watch the Astronomical clock and check out old town. We were pleased to find a painting of Prague to take home. We had also bought one in London so we've started our European Art collection. There were so many people out today. The guide said this is the busiest season. We had a traditional meal of goulash and dumplings & beer at an outdoor restaurant on the square. Everywhere we've been in Europe there have been countless outside restaurants and it's wonderful to be able to sit outside and people watch. Our hotel is the Diplomat.
