| During the last week or so we had been in contact with Ros's cousin, Owen, in Bern, Switzerland trying to work out the best time to visit. Every time we had tried in the past it had failed & this time we planned to go in a week but found out they wouldn't be there. Our only option was to go the coming weekend, which meant cutting short Italy & a long drive straight to Bern from La Spezia. After very short notice to Owen it was all arranged for us to arrive on Saturday morning. However, the only problem was... we mixed up our days! We arrived in Portofino for a quick couple of hours looking around. The town is stunning, perfect for a postcard, but we had to leave early to make the drive to Switzerland to be there early for the next morning, Saturday. We got a text from Owen asking if we had arrived yet. We thought he was a bit confused & said no we're coming on Saturday. He wrote back - "It is Saturday?!" We were shocked, we thought it was Friday & then we felt robbed of a day! Worst of all, Owen had cancelled some plans & also invited people out for a drink Sat night to meet us!! Oops... So we drove from 4.30pm & finally arrived just outside Bern at midnight after 600km! |
