We had a nice, uneventful drive into Columbia this afternoon. John is feeling a bit better and we are both looking forward to seeing all our friends and the progress of the new by-pass in town. After a quick set up I headed into town to meet up with Sonya and see how Hal was doing. A great but quick visit and then we met up with Jr and Connie to catch up and say thak you for once again "leaving the light on" in Little Gattlingburg! We drove into town to see Jimmy and Joyce and Jimmy drove us once again another way into Sulpher Wells to have dinner at one of John's favorite places, 'The Lighthouse".
Sulpher Wells was once quite famous, back in the 20's and 30's. They had a beautiful hotel and offered the healing sulpher baths to those who wanted to benefit from them. One of the most frequent visitors was Al Capone! The hotel is now sadly almost sunk in upon itself but the restaurant and little store still stand and are going strong. The Lighthouse restaurant offers family style meals and the best chicken, after Pop's that is, that I have ever eaten. We love to go there but always have to wait for Jimmy and Joyce to take us because Jimmy takes us and brings us home a different way everytime we go! I think he just doesnt want us to ever go there without him!
Unfortunately Joyce is going to have to have further surgery on her back on Friday and is still not able to get around much. I went along Wed with she and Connie to the hospital in Louisville and after we drove into Ohio to the Casino to eat dinner at Portifino's....WOW What a terrific dinner.
Spent Thursday with Sonya tagging along while she went school shopping! She is so excited, she will begin school for massage therapy in Lexington later this month. I know she will be so good at it!
Joyce had surgery, we hope succesfully, on Friday and came home Saturday. I had a nice pot roast dinner waiting for her and plan to stay with her and cook for her and Jimmy until we leave. She is in quite a bit of pain but is hopeful that they were able to fix the problem this time.
We took some time out to head for Chance, the community our last farm was in, to say hello to so many of our dear friends and neighbors. John had driven out to see the farm earlier in the week but I wont go back...too sad for me! But it was great to catch up with everyone.
Tuesday brought moving day. John had a call to do some work in Alabama and as it is in Enterprise way down by Florida we made the decision to head home from there. So it was with another tearful good bye to all our good friends and an anticipation of seeing Brian real soon that we upped jacks and headed for Alabama!
PS For those of you who know us so well you wont be surprised to learn that John andI still have horses. One of the gray mares we kept 'Grady" presented us with a lovely foal the day before we arrived. We would like to thank Gail and Genella for standing in as surrgate parents!
