Overlooking Henry's Lake

Headed for a day of fishing on Henry's Lake!

We are now in the city of Island Park, Idaho. Island Park is situated in a caldera of an extinct volcano with the rim still visible to the west. The region has become an all-season recreational destination. Summer offers anglers world-class streams & lakes. During the fall sportsman find exceptional waterfowl & big game hunting. Island Park also has the distinction of having the world's longest main street of 33 miles long!

The RV Park we are currently staying at is located on Highway 20, 15 miles outside Yellowstone Park. We are surrounded by mountains, except right across the Highway is Henry's Lake & is it ever beautiful.

Larry & I have a friend who lives in St George, Utah most of the year but has a summer home here. He is 80+ years young & he was a wonderful tour guide this afternoon. He also took us to lunch which was very nice of him! The pic I have included is taken on the deck of his backyard looking out at the lake. He is disappointed that it is not crystal clear like normal, but it was a little overcast today, and the fire in Montana is drifting here a bit.

One of our stops was at Big Springs today. Big Springs has been described as the headwaters of the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Here are spawning grounds for huge rainbow trout, with moose, muskrat, geese and great blue herons frequenting the area. The spring produces 120 million gallons per day! I have included some pics of the trout, geese & muskrat. They all loved the flour tortillas we balled up & fed to them!

Can you believe how big that river gets within a few feet! Wow! Had a great day. Tomorrow Jack is taking Larry fishing on the lake. (See pic.) He is looking forward to that! P.S. Larry caught 2 trout (one of which was over 3 lbs!) which Jack fileted for us & we are having them for dinner tonight! Delicious!
