We had an amazing day in the Ngorongoro Crater. Geologically, Ngorongoro is the remnant of a volcano that blew apart, leaving a flat plain area ringed with steep walls. The Ngorongoro volcano, before it exploded and collapsed 2 millions years ago, was one of the world's tallest mountains. You can see by our pictures what it looks like now.
The highlight of the day was seeing a young male lion in the middle of the road!!!! It came so close to our vehicle we could have touched it if we had opened our window. The crater itself was absolutely incredible. The scenery was almost surreal it was so beautiful. The wildlife was amazing--the crater is home to more than 30,000 animals--and everywhere you looked there were more animals. The pictures speak for themselves. I highly recommend that anyone who has plans to visit Tanzania should make sure to spend time at Ngorongoro Crater.
