Days 33 and 34: Valdez, AK
The weather continued to be rainy, cloudy, cold and very foggy! It was a tricky drive down to Valdez. The scenery must be wonderful when the weather is clear. We got glimpses of mountains on all sides, sheer drop-offs from the roads into valleys below, and some really bad roads. The roads are taking their toll on the RVs - we developed a couple of leaks, which we have hopefully fixed. Before they did, however, things got a bit wet in places.
Day 2 of our Valdez stay, we assembled in the rain for a day-long sightseeing cruise to glaciers, and other sites. No one wanted to go, but it was a wonderful day for viewing the glaciers and wildlife. We saw 2 large glaciers, which were calving fairly good-sized icebergs; various birds (puffins, eagles, etc.); harbor seals; sea lions; a black bear with 2 cubs; whales; etc. It was very cold and windy, but we had a good boat and good company.
