Well, here i am in barcelona, spain. we left (my friend eric, a engineering student from uc irvine) siena yesterday at around 9pm heading off to the pisa airport. we planned to sleep inside the airport because our flight to gerona was scheduled to depart at 7am. the pisa airport is small and very pretty but they do not allow you to sleep inside so we ended up sort of sleeping outside the airport with a whole bunch of other people. we met a guy from new york, some girls from spain and a french family. we were all taking early flights. of course we hardly got any sleep. we arrived at gerona at around 8:30am and then took a bus to barcelona. at that point we had to take the metro to get to our hostel. the room we are stying in is very small and basic, this is all you can expect for 20 euros per night. we are staying here four nights and then we are heading off to ireland were we will stayed until the 5th of september. my friend eric goes back to the US at that point. i head off to paris were i will be staying for 3 nights and then to london were i am staying four nights. later i am heading off to siena were i will be spending the rest of the time. I will finally get to spend some time with alessandro now that school is over. he really wanted to joing us on this trip but unfortunately he has to work. he did come to say goodby at the train station in siena.
once we arrived at our hostel, eric took a shower and i took a nap. then eric went to sleep and i was ready to go sightseeing but eric was not so i took off on my on.
i just stood before Gaudi's magnificent church, the Sagrada Familia and it is an impressive thing to see. all the pictures of this chuch i had seen befor do not begin to express how you feel when you first see this world known work of art. it is necessary to stand in front of it to realize its magnitud and uniqueness. tomorrow i am hoping eric will get up early and go with me to the guided tour. if not, i am heading off on my own. we are also scheduled to see the ramblas and we are hoping to make it to costa brava and to the tomatinas festival, which i believe is four hours away from here. this were people have tomato fights. we will see what happens. i will keep you guys posted. i am off to sleep now since i need to get up early tomorrow.
