Having a beer in Spain

Plaza de Vergin Blanca ... or something!

We caught an overnight ferry to Bilbao, in northern Spain, and then a bus to Vitoria the capital of the region.

We arrived last night and walked around the medievel square, where there were tapas bars and restaurants open till late.

We snacked on tapas at one, then moved on to something a little more substantial. The hotel is a bit better than what we usually get.

This morning we explored the central hill that is the oldest part of town, by a little tourist train, and then by foot. There are lots of steep narrow streets with cobblestones and outdoor seating. We had a three course meal for lunch which was a set price including a whole bottle of wine. Had to have a little siesta afterwards. Is quite cool, less than 20 deg, so very pleasant.

The next day Daniel and I went on a tour of their 1000 year old cathedral which is undergoing archeological investifgation and rebuilding. Very interesting, does not have solid foundations so has been faling apart its whole history.

That afternoon we caught a bus for 1.5 hours to San Sebastien, on the coast.

On the way we saw great mountains and little villages that all had a church with a bell tower that reminded me of westerns. I wish Dad was here so I could tell him about it. (Just like the trinity movies he used to take us to, remember Tom?)
