Another state...South Dakota!

| We set off for a short one hour drive to our first stop today....Deadwood, South Dakota. And we have now entered another state! Deadwood (yes, the same town in the HBO show) is at a higher elevation in the pines. We were surprised to find the town full of casinos. It seems the town funds the historical restoration through the casinos. We walked around town, had breakfast, then took a trolley trip up to Broken Boot Gold Mine, where we took a tour of the gold mine. Just as we were picked up for the return trip, it began raining. Coming from dry southern California, it was nice to have a short shower. We got off the trolley downtown and visited the Midnight Star, which is a casino owned by Kevin Costner. All of his movie memorabilia, like the costumes from Dances with Wolves, were in the casino, so we took some time to look at them. Then we were off to the place we'll be staying for the next few days....The Hart Ranch in Rapid City, SD. We're anxious to see the local sights over the next few days including Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands of South Dakota. Come back soon to see those pictures! |
