Lisbon Trams

Never Again...

Palacio de Pena

A very long, very hot, very expensive day finally got us to the city campground of Lisbon. We took the toll roads to save time, being on a tight schedule, but you certainly pay for the privilege. At least with three of us now the kitty goes a bit further! Thankfully we made it just in time before the pool shut... What a day, 10hrs on the road in 30 degree heat!

The heat that we had been longing for had arrived for sure, no build up, just straight into 30+ days! It made walking around the city almost unbearable, but we still had a good wander around for the day & managed to stumble upon the Lisbon delicacy of custard tarts. We had been told about them & the boys certainly enjoyed devouring several!

A swim was essential for the afternoon followed by a big drinking night. Phil & Jarrod managed to polish off more than a case of beer between them! At some stage Jarrod discovered that a chicken breast in the fridge had gone bad and he should hurl it across the campground, hmmm, sure to be grounds for instant dismissal should we have been caught!

The next day we got the train towards the coast to a town called Sintra, a must see on a Portuguese itinerary! A whole town on the Unesco world heritage list, set in thick forests with some way out there architecture. Another grueling hot day, we got the bus up a road fit for a rally driver and walked around the remains of Castelo dos Mouros, with a fantastic view over the rest of Sintra. Next stop was the extremely bizarre architecture of Palacio da Pena, very interesting!

Another mercy dash to make it back to the Lisbon campground in time for a swim before hitting the road, we waved goodbye to Lisbon & headed for The Algarve...
