We arrived in Denver on July 13 after about a 400 mile trip from Rapid City. The trip was pretty uneventful except for heavy traffic on I-25S and a close encounter with a very large piece of farm equipment doing about 20 mph in the right lane. Don't know if we or the equipment operator were more scared by the experience. Taught us to look even further ahead when driving on interstates. We stayed at the same RV park in Golden that we stayed at last year. The park hadn't changed much except that the RV sites seemed much smaller. Maybe it was because we were parking a 35 foot 5th wheel RV with triple slides instead of a 24 foot trailer. Saturday, the 15th, we joined 80 other people to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Emily's Aunt Karol and Uncle Bob. They were really surprised and thrilled to get the queen-size quilt that Emily had made for the occasion (see photo) and it blended perfectly with the colors of their newly painted bedroom. Daytime temps in Denver were 90-100 degrees, or about 10 degrees cooler than we experienced in Rapid City. Evenings cooled down to a comfortable level. A few days after many of the guests had departed and things settled down a bit, Karol drove us to Boulder, Estes Park, and a few miles into the Rocky Mountain National Park. Movie buffs might recognize the photo of the Stanley Hotel, site of the Shining.

On Sunday, the 23rd, we got back on the I-25 "parking lot" and made the 70 miles to the AF Academy RV park in Colorado Springs in just over 2 hours. We managed to get the same site among the tall pines that we had this past April. The park had been surprisingly empty; sometimes it seems only half full. Other than some short trips to nearby restaurants and shopping centers, we haven't strayed much from the academy grounds. Emily's been taking advantage of the academy's great swimming pool and Joe's been trying to work off the "after-effects" of some great Denver cooking at the fitness center. The wonderful food at the Officers Club overlooking the chapel and campus has really challenged our fitness efforts. We plan to stay here at least until August 23; hopefully through September.

Thanks for stopping by. Please leave us a message if you get a chance.
